Arnau Brugues-Davi of Spain Defeats Alex Bogdanovic of Great Britain for St. Vincent USTA Pro Tennis Title




Arnau Brugues-Davi of Spain defeated Alex Bogdanovic of Great Britain 6-3, 6-1 to capture the 2011 St. Vincent Tour de Paul singles tennis championship at Pleasant Valley Country Club. Brugues won the previous weekend championship in Oklahoma City. The victory earned him $1,500 in prize money and 27 points towards his ranking.

Two young Southerners made a big impression in the doubles event. Taylor Fogleman, of New Orleans and formerly of the University of North Carolina, and his partner, Ben Rogers, of Kingsport, Tenn. and formerly of the University of Tennessee, advanced to the doubles final. They lost to Nima Roshan and Artem Sitak 6-3, 7-5.

This year’s main draw included Carsten Ball and Chris Guccione of Australia and Clement Reix of France. Players from the US included Nicholas Monroe, Gregory Ouellette, Michael Yani and Adam El Mihdawy. Prominent Southern players in qualifying included Jordan Cox of Duluth, Ga. and Devin Britton of Brandon, Miss. Britton, formerly of the University of Mississippi, is the 2009 NCAA Division I Singles Champion.
